V K Sharma, acting chief of Life Insurance Corp of India, has been confirmed as chairman and managing director of the nation's biggest insurer and investor for five years after the Cabinet's Appointments Committee recommended his candidature.
Sharma's term will be keenly followed as the government plans to utilise the insurer's funds to build infrastructure with it planning to invest lakhs of crores in helping railways build capacities.
