    A good social media presence is very essential for mutual fund distributors nowadays. However, many MFDs have no clarity on this important aspect of business and are unable to maximize the benefits of these platforms.

    Mumbai MFD Viral Bhatt has over 5,000 followers on LinkedIn and frequently appears as a guest speaker on top business news channels. While talking to Nishant Patnaik, Associate Editor, Cafemutual in the ‘Meri Kahani, Meri Zubani’ segment at the recently concluded Cafemutual Ideas Fest (CIF) 2025, Viral shared with us how MFDs can benefit from social media platforms like LinkedIn and gave tips to build a strong social media presence. 

    On use of social media platforms by MFDs

    Viral believes that MFDs should definitely take advantage of social media platforms to reach the masses. However, it is important for them to be well-structured and consistent in their approach. Each social media caters to a different audience. For instance, while millennials use Instagram, professionals use Linkedin to network and make connections.

    According to Viral, a platform like LinkedIn can be very beneficial to MFDs as it allows them to reach educated and evolved audience and present their views in a well-structured way. It has also emerged as a platform which can give good visibility and help you build a good reputation.

    Tips to use LinkedIn

    Viral explains that MFDs should focus on small details of their LinkedIn profile like profile picture, banner and be careful about what they post. He shares his mantra for content creation by emphasizing on three important factors: clarity, consistency and quality.

    He expands on this by saying that it is important for MFDs to have clarity on the topic on which they are presenting their views. Often, MFDs forward videos and creatives that are viral and have no substance. Instead, MFDs should post original videos or posts created by them. The aim is to showcase your subject matter expertise, he adds.

     

    Viral also said that while many MFDs use Linkedin but they hardly post anything. He says it is necessary for MFDs to create a calendar to make sure they post consistently.

    In order to offer quality content on their social media handles, Viral advises MFDs to post about their real-life interactions with clients and topics in which they have expertise. He also asks MFDs to engage with the comments on their posts to make sure they have a two-way communication.

    Viral believes that MFD can generate leads through a good LinkedIn profile.

    Choice of social media platform

    Viral cautions MFDs that social media platforms evolve very quickly. It is hence necessary for MFDs to be adaptable and be ready to adopt any new social media platform which becomes popular in the future. He also asks MFDs to use AI intelligently to enhance their content while retaining their individual voice.

    He concludes by placing his bets on WhatsApp business to become very popular in the upcoming years and advises MFDs to use the platform for marketing, branding and communication by integrating its API.
