Direct plans are hurting the mutual fund industry: Tamanna Varma, distributor

Three years ago, Sebi made mutual fund houses launch direct plans in each scheme. These schemes have lower costs than regular plans because there are no distributors' commissions and other marketing expenses. Ever since, Sebi has been encouraging fund houses to push these direct plans to their investors, in direct competition with their own appointed agents.
