How can I renew my ARN? It will expire in May.
Asha Gandhi
My ARN is due for renewal in October, i.e., 6 months from now. Do I need to appear for the AMFI examination again to renew my ARN? Is there a way where I would not be required to take up an examination?
Praveen Kumar Dole
Dear Asha and Praveen,
In order to renew the ARN licence, mutual fund distributors have to undergo mandatory six hours of classroom training, called continuing professional examination (CPE). Once you appear for this refresher course, NISM will issue a certificate stating that you have successfully completed the mandatory training.
You can click here to find out the forthcoming CPE training to be held at a location near you. StreetsAhead, a joint initiative of Cafemutual and Ambition Learning, provides CPE training to mutual fund distributors across 200 locations under Sykes & Ray EduPro.
You can enroll for CPE registration online. The fee payment has also to be made online. Currently, the fee for the one-day CPE training is around Rs.2,500.
Distributors are required to upload documents (previous certificate, ARN, exam certificate, experience certificate, etc.) depending on their category.
The registration/enrolment for any CPE training programme closes a day prior to the training date. Distributors should note that an email-id is necessary for registration as they will receive the certificate electronically.
NISM is also planning to provide online eCPE for mutual fund distributors.
Once you appear for CPE, you can renew your ARN either online or by physically submitting your documents at CAMS point of service. While you will get your renewal instantly online, you will have to wait for a month for the physical ARN renewal.
AMFI has simplified online renewal of ARN. You need to keep your Aadhaar handy to register and renew your ARN number.
However, if you did not appear for CPE prior to the expiry, you will have to appear for NISM MF Distributors’ Certification Examination Series-V A. The exam will cost you Rs.1,500.
Please remember that AMCs will not pay you commission on business procured during non-validity of your ARN (six months after expiry of ARN).
