Cafemutual gears up to recognize the breakthrough moment in AIF space

Here is a glimpse of what you can expect from the event.
Sridhar Kumar Sahu Jul 13, 2019

Senior executives and fund managers in the AIF and PMS space, senior officials and product heads of private banks, wealth management firms and national distributors, leading IFAs, boutique wealth managers and decision makers at family offices are all set to participate in Cafemutual’s first ever thought leadership event in the alternative space.

Cafemutual Marquee 2019 is due on August 6 at The Sahara Star, Mumbai. The theme for this event is ‘Awaiting the Breakthrough Moment’.

Sunil Singhania, Founder of Abakkus Asset Management, said, “The event recognizes what AIFs and PMS can bring to Indian investors. Therefore, it is a good initiative from Cafemutual to encourage this new avenue of investment for HNIs. I hope that it becomes an annual event.”

Further explaining the importance of this event from an AIF standpoint, Signghania said, “Rich family offices and ultra HNIs would like more specialized investment platform compared to mutual funds. I am hopeful this event will provide funds like us to display our advantage and importance.”

Pankaj Murarka, Founder & CIO, Renaissance, said that the event should be a good platform for all the people who are associated with the AIF space to come together. “AIFs are going to play an instrumental role in the investment basket of investors going forward. The AIF space is on the cusp of takeoff and I think it can emerge as the mainstream asset class over medium to long term,” he said.

The Renaissance founder added that the event will provide an opportunity for the AIF industry to brainstorm on how to make this space effective and beneficial for the better interest of investors. He also asked the industry to use the event as a platform to stress the importance of AIFs being treated at par with MFs from a taxation standpoint.

Satheesh Krishnamurthy, EVP-Business Head- Affluent and NRI, Axis Wealth Management said that it would be of great interest to see how HNIs see AIFs’ performance from a risk-reward perspective. “I would like to see discussions around how this space is developing and how is it helping the capital market.”

His wish list also includes an update on the start-up space. “The start-up culture in India is getting exciting. Many HNIs want to invest in India’s start-up story and I look forward to have an insight on this,” he added.
