Recent SEBI data shows that AIFs overall are yet to invest 60% of their commitments raised amount.
As on September, the commitments raised by AIFs stood at Rs 3.17 lakh crore. Of this, Rs.1.26 lakh crore or 40% of funds has been invested by the AIFs while the remaining 60% is yet to be invested.
Among the three categories, Category-3 AIFs have utilised most of their commitments raised amount. As on September, the Category-3 AIFs had commitments worth Rs.42,223 crore and Rs.30,961 crore or 73% of it has been invested.
In case of Category 1 funds, the proportion of investment made out of the total commitments raised amount remained the least among all three categories. Of the Rs 36,140 crore commitments raised by Category 1 AIFs, 34% or Rs 12,417 crore has been invested.
In case of Category 2 AIFs, commitments raised by AIFs stood at Rs 2.38 lakh crore. Of this, 35% or Rs 82,426 crore has been invested by the funds.
Kamal Manocha, Chief Strategist, PMS AIF WORLD said that since Category 3 AIFs invest in the listed space while Category 1 and Category 2 deal in the unlisted space, the former have more investment opportunities.
Nalin Moniz, Chief Investment Officer - Alternative Equity, Edelweiss Global Asset Management said that Category 3 AIFs have found good avenues to invest as the recent correction in equity market has made valuations attractive.
