While the top 10 AMCs together lost Rs. 38,475 crore, Franklin Templeton and DSP BlackRock recorded an AUM growth of 4% and 2%, respectively, in the October-December quarter.
Mumbai: Franklin Templeton Mutual Fund saw its assets grow to Rs. 35,642 crore during October-December 2011, adding Rs. 1,231 crore. Its closest competitor DSP BlackRock also recorded a marginal 2% or Rs. 481 crore growth, which took its AUM to Rs. 30,565.
Franklin launched its Templeton India Corporate Bond Opportunities Fund in November 2011, while DSP BlackRock has been launching a spree of FMPs. It collected Rs. 48 crore from its new fund offer, DSP BlackRock World Agriculture Fund in October 2011.
“We have been getting reasonable participation from investors. We were able to retain our assets,” said Ajit Menon, Executive Vice President - Head Sales & Marketing, DSP BlackRock AMC.
The remaining top 10 fund houses together recorded a drop of Rs. 38,475 crore during October-December 2011. Reliance lost 9% AUM during Oct-Dec while HDFC dipped a bit less by only 3% during the same period. SBI also lost 13% or Rs. 6,180 crore.
BSE Sensex has lost 4% during October-December 2011. The mutual fund industry also lost 4% from Rs. 7.12 lakh crore in July-Sep to Rs. 6.81 lakh crore in Oct-Dec 2011.
