    84% of MF assets come from T15 cities

    The total AUM from the T15 cities stood at Rs.17.60 lakh crore.

    The assets from the top 15 cities increased by 27% in the past one year, shows AMFI’s quarterly geographical data. The total AUM from the T15 cities stood at Rs.17.60 lakh crore as on September 2017, which accounts for 86% of the total MF AUM.

    Mumbai retained the top spot with the highest AUM. The AUM of Mumbai increased to Rs.8.36 lakh crore in September 2017 from Rs.6.74 lakh crore in September 2016, the highest among all the cities. However, Mumbai’s contribution to overall AUM has slightly decreased from 43% in September 2016 to 41% in September 2017.

    Delhi followed Mumbai with AUM of Rs.2.82 lakh crore. The nation’s capital accounts for 14% of the total MF AUM.

    Interestingly, Chennai overtook Bangalore for the third spot. Chennai recorded AUM of Rs.1.30 lakh crore, which is 6% of the total MF AUM. In terms percentage growth, Chennai recorded the highest increase in its AUM at 70% by adding Rs.53,241 crore to its AUM kitty.

    Beyond the top five cities in the T15 category, Pune witnessed the highest growth in its AUM. The assets of Pune increased by 31% or Rs.17,016 crore to Rs.72,634 crore in September 2017.

    Similarly, Lucknow witnessed the highest increase in AUM in percentage terms.  Its AUM increased by 45% or Rs.3,525 crore to Rs.11,426 crore.

    Of the total AUM of Rs.10 lakh crore of institutional investors, 91% or Rs.9.10 lakh crore was in T15 cities. 

    Similarly, the contribution of individual investors, which include retail investors and HNIs in T15 cities, has increased to Rs.7.60 lakh crore in September 2017 from Rs.5.60 lakh crore in September 2016.

    All the T15 cities witnessed substantial increase in their assets in the past one year.
