The average ticket size in equity funds fell marginally by 3% in the last quarter. The fall in ticket size was seen across institutional investors (3%) as well as individual investors (2%).
Equity funds include balanced funds and ETFs that track indices besides pure equity funds and ELSS in equity funds. Institutional investors include both domestic and foreign institutions while individual investors consist of both HNIs and retail investors.

Liquid funds too experienced a fall in average ticket size. A huge drop in AUM (Rs. 63,056 crore) and a substantial increase in folio count 1.73 lakh caused the average ticket size to drop from Rs. 37.28 lakh to Rs. 28.17 lakh during the quarter. However, the trend differed across categories of investors. September being the half-year typically many institutional investors pull out their investments from liquid funds. On the other hand, individual investors seem to have embraced liquid funds with a gusto. The AUM of Individual investor category in liquid funds increased from Rs. 56,297 crore to Rs. 71,138 crore between June and September while the folios increased from. 11.85 lakh to 13.57 lakh.

Ongoing outflows from debt markets coupled with a marginal decrease in folio count resulted in the average ticket size falling by 5% during the quarter ending September 2018. Debt funds include both debt and gilt funds.

Overall, retail and HNI ticket size fell by 2% during the quarter. Highest fall in ticket size was observed in corporates majorly due to Rs. 71,558 crore of outflow from liquid funds recorded in the category during the quarter.
