AMFI to promote debt funds through a new campaign

AMFI committee on financial literacy to discuss this in the meeting.
    Nishant Patnaik Dec 23, 2018

After the success of ‘Mutual Funds Sahi Hai’ campaign, AMFI is set to launch its new campaign that will promote the benefits of investing in debt funds.

NS Venkatesh, AMFI, CEO told Cafemutual that AMFI will come out with the campaign soon.  He said, “We will take final call in the upcoming board meeting of financial literacy committee.” Currently, Nimesh Shah, MD and CEO, ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund and Chairman AMFI is heading this committee.

In an earlier interaction with Cafemutual, Venkatesh had said, “‘Mutual Funds Sahi Hai’ debt campaign being an innovative campaign required a lot of time for ideation and conceptualisation. We are still in the process of finalisation and are working closely with media agencies for the same,” he added.

The first ‘Mutual Funds Sahi Hai’ camping ran across different media channels such as TV, online platforms, print, radio, hoardings in multiple languages.  According to Venkatesh, they plan to adopt a similar route to spread awareness about debt.

Will the debt campaign capture the imagination of investors (to increase retail participation in debt markets) as the first campaign did? Only time will tell.

DEAR SIR, THE SLOGAN IS PLEASENT,ATTRACTIVE. I WAS ALSO SEARCHING A PLATEFORM FROM WHERE WE CAN GIVE DEBT PRODUCT PRESTIGEOUSLY TO INVESTOR. FROM THAT POINT OF VIEW IT IS
EXCELLENT. BUT WHEN FMP & DEBT PRODUCT I GIVEN CLEARLY STATING ABOUT RETURN, TENURE
& TAX PROVISION.THE TOOK HAPPILY. BUT AT THE TIME OF MATURITY/EXIT, THEY WERE NOT HAPPY
AS THEY WERE HABITUAL OF GETTING HIGHER RETURNS AS WAS IN EQUITY PRODUCTS. SO THIS IS THE MAIN DIFFICULTY IS INVESTORS WANTS MORE IN EVERY RESPECT IN COMPARISON TO BANKS.
IF IT IS SO THE SLOGAN WILL BE SUCCESFUL OTHERWISE IT WILL BE LIKE LIKE GARIBI HATAO,KALA DHAN LAVO. THANKS

How rational is AMFI's this idea because in Taxation angle presently tax liability is there since the return comes down after Taxation. In case this financial year any changes is done then only one can consider to promote the Debt products.Ultimately as per present regulation introduced by SEBI there is no upfront commission, considering commission for Debt fund is very less to Equity and equity oriented Funds.
In such a situation how the Advisors has to promote these products?
