What is your state’s rank based on MF assets per resident?

New Delhi tops; UP, MP, Bihar and Assam at the bottom
    Aug 11, 2019

New Delhi, Goa and Maharashtra have the highest AUM per capita, respectively, among all the states and union territories (UTs) of India, shows AMFI data.

AUM per capita is the total AUM of the state or UT divided by the region’s population.

Maharashtra and New Delhi featuring in this table is not a surprise, because they are the top two states in terms of total AUM and account for 51% of the industry’s total AUM. Goa featured in this list because its population is not large but the tourists’ favourite state has a sizable MF AUM.

While New Delhi’s per capita AUM stood at Rs.1.36 lakh, per capita AUM of Goa was at Rs.1.15 lakh and Maharashtra’s at Rs. 96,114.

Besides Goa, Chandigarh and Sikkim do not feature among the regions that rank in the top 10 states and UTs based on AUM but they find a spot in the table of top 10 regions having the highest AUM per capita.

Apart from these five, Haryana, Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal feature among the top 10 states based on AUM per capita. These states also feature among the top states in terms of total AUM.

It is heartening to see West Bengal at 5th position in the AUM list . Because in national media and various agencies report West Bengal is portrayed as state of Zero economic activity, High unemployment rate and so on. But this report shows people in the state are earning well so to expand their investments beyond safe Fixed Deposit, Post office and LIC. The " Mutual Fund Sahi Hain" campaign must have helped in alienating fears of Retail investors. They also relatively are maturing to hold on to their ground in turbulent times like this.

AMFI data shown near about 3 to 4 percent PAN enrollment on mutual fund industry. Now your survey shown that per capita AUM, in my opinion this data don"t give the benefit of mutual fund to every citizen of INDIA. If regulator simplify the norm & also encourage to promote mutual fund on grass root then it is fruit full to every citizen if our country to participating on mutual fund to grow them. If out 100 only 4 or 5 individuals growing rest are not growing , we are happy to publish per capita AUM. My request to all the regulator to think about how grow our nation maximum individuals to get the benefits of this mutual fund industries.
