An age-wise analysis of SIP accounts shows that regular plan SIPs account for the majority of the total SIP AUM. Nevertheless, direct plan SIP AUM has also been growing at a steady pace.
As on September 30, the total SIP AUM stood at Rs 2.89 lakh crore. Of this, Rs 2.57 lakh crore (89%) belongs to regular plan SIPs, while Rs 31,673 crore (11%) has come from direct plan SIPs.
In the past three months, the total SIP AUM rose by Rs 7,815 crore in absolute terms. While regular plan SIP AUM has increased by Rs 5,810 crore, direct plan SIP AUM rose by Rs 2,004 crore.
A deeper dive shows that direct plan SIP AUM has grown at 7% over the last quarter, showing promising signs of growth in future. Experts attribute this steady growth to growing awareness about direct plans through AMFI campaign and ease of investment through apps like Zerodha, ET Money and Paytm Money.
A similar trend was seen in the last quarter as well. As on June 30, the total SIP AUM of the MF industry stood at Rs 2.81 lakh crore. Of this, Rs 29,700 crore (11%) came from direct plan SIPs, while the remaining Rs 2.51 lakh crore (89%) was routed through direct plan SIPs.
