Equity inflows fall for second consecutive month

Overall, the MF industry’s average AUM crossed Rs 26 lakh crore.
    Bhakti Makwana Nov 9, 2019

In October, equity inflows have witnessed a decline for the second consecutive month, shows AMFI data. Total equity inflows fell by 8.8% to Rs 6,026 crore in October from Rs 6,609 crore in September.

This decline was largely because of a fall in inflows in large cap funds and multi cap funds. While large cap funds witnessed an inflow of Rs 1,182 crore in October as against Rs 1,559 crore in September, the inflows in multi cap funds reduced to Rs 1,311 crore from Rs 1,674 crore.

Data available on SIP was encouraging with the number of SIP accounts increasing to 2.88 crore. Moreover, the industry’s SIP AUM crossed Rs 3 lakh crore for the first time. SIP inflows, however, were marginally lower at Rs 8,245 crore compared to Rs.8,262 crore in September.

N S Venkatesh, CEO, AMFI said, “SIP AUM crossing the Rs 3 lakh crore landmark for the first time ever and the continual rise in SIP accounts are a positive reflection of disciplined approach adopted by the retail investor fraternity.

G Pradeepkumar, CEO, Union AMC said, “The SIP flows have remained robust even in the face of continued volatility in the market, which augurs well for the mutual fund industry as well for the broader markets. It is also encouraging that there has been about a 65% increase in the number of new SIPs added”.

On debt front, the industry witnessed an inflow of Rs 1.21 lakh crore in October, compared to an outflow of Rs.1.58 lakh crore in September. This was because of robust inflows in liquid funds. The category saw an inflow of Rs.93,202 crore.

Credit risk funds continued to witness outflows of Rs 1,381 crore. However, the outflow was higher at Rs 2,351 crore.

Overall, the MF industry’s average AUM crossed Rs 26 lakh crore in October, largely due to inflows in liquid funds.
