    Here’s what went in and out of MF portfolios in Feb 2020

    In the large cap segment, energy and consumer products were the top picks by the AMCs.

    Although 2020 started on a positive note, February witnessed a sense of nervousness among investors as the positive cases of Coronavirus surged in India. The key indices lost nearly 4% in February.

    Despite this, net inflows into equity funds increased in February 2020 to Rs.10,800 crore from Rs. 7,900 crore in January 2020.

    Let’s look at how mutual funds dealt with the flows and all changes they made to their portfolio:

    Large cap

    In the large cap segment, energy and consumer products stocks were among the top picks. NMDC, Godrej Consumer, ONGC, DLF and Coal India witnessed highest buying during February 2020. 

    Large cap stocks, which saw selling by AMCs on a consolidated level were Bajaj Holdings, JSW Steel, Bandhan Bank, Petronet LNG, Muthoot Finance.

    On a consolidated basis, in midcaps, stocks like NHPC, Bharat Electronics, GMR Infrastructure and SJVN witnessed good buying by AMCs. Meanwhile, those which saw selling by AMCs were IRCTC, Shriram Transport Finance, Vodafone Idea, Tata Chemicals and Adani Enterprises.

    Meanwhile, small cap stocks, which saw selling by AMCs were India Cements, BASF, Gujarat Alkalis, Welspun India and APL Apollo Tubes.
