In this edition of ‘Principal Business Champions – Winning Ideas’, we asked distributors across the country to share two hobbies they have picked up  during the lockdown months.

The Principal Business Champions is a joint initiative between Principal Mutual Fund and Cafemutual that offers a platform to the MF distribution community to share their successful business practices and ideas.

The contest has received some interesting experiences from distributors. Here are the entries that received the highest votes.

Website winner: Rajesh Hattangady, Thiink, Mumbai

‘I pen down couple of poems everyday about the current situation’

Zindagi jab theher si jaaye, yaad kar lo uss lamhe ko. Waqt kabhi ruka hi nahin, dekh lo apne aap ko. These are a few lines from the poem I wrote in the past few months. Until lockdown, I was never into poems or writing for that matter. But lockdown has given me adequate time to express my thoughts through poems.

Making charcoal sketches is another hobby I have picked up in this lockdown. I used to make charcoal based sketches in school and later did not find much time for it caught up as I was in my business! But lockdown helped me get back to my hobby. In fact, now I have replaced all the wallpapers on my website with charcoal sketches.

Twitter winner: Praful Patil, Patil Investments, Thane

‘I have started doing yoga and reading self-help books this lockdown’

During lockdown, one of my clients sent me an invitation to enroll for the course ‘Inner Engineering’ for personal development. Since then I make it a point to take out a few hours every day to do yoga and listen to podcasts for better inner health.

Reading some chapters of self-help books regularly in the morning is another habit I have developed during lockdown. “The 5 Am Club "book by Robin Sharma taught me the 20-20-20 principle. This involves spending the first 20 minutes of your day in exercise, second 20 minutes reviewing your goals and daily plan and last 20 minutes reading something inspiring.

Facebook winner: Srinivas Subudhi, FundsIndia, Chennai

‘Doing meditation to deal with stress and anxiety’

Since the pandemic outbreak has been hard on our mental health, I started doing meditation to deal with stress and anxiety. Meditation helped me reduce negative emotions and feelings of stress.

Another hobby I have picked up during lockdown is learning new languages. I can’t speak any language other than English and Tamil. The past three months gave me plenty of time to learn a new language which I have enjoyed a lot. I have started with Telugu.
