It is a common desire to be successful, but success is subject to certain uncontrollable and external forces. Swami Gyanvatsal, Motivational speaker and spiritual leader, addressed the audiences on ‘Achieving success in the midst of opposing forces’ at Cafemutual Ideas Fest 2021. Opposing forces include criticism from others, past failures, inferiorities, etc.
Swamiji used a mix of psychology, spirituality and management wisdom to touch upon some beautiful and practical facets of a successful life. Here are some of his teachings that enlightened the minds of the audience.
Be well-equipped - You must be well-equipped to succeed. Hone the required skills and upgrade yourself academically, keep abreast of the latest developments and also have in place the required business support systems. You must prepare yourself for the role that you need to play for creating better results and output.
Work hard and ethically - As Bill Gates states in ‘Business at the speed of light’, success is a culmination of three things: determination, intense hard work, and acceptance of ideas from others. Make it a habit to work hard and be committed to ethics, norms and discipline. It is very important to inculcate honesty and strong moral principles.
Never say die spirit - You must never give up or feel dejected no matter what. Be a symbol of strength and resilience. Have a firm belief in yourself and be open to receiving newer opportunities. Jeff Keller in his book ‘Attitude is everything’ says attitude plays a bigger role in success than the resources that you have. A positive and can-do attitude can make a difference.
Wish well for all - Office politics act as an opposing force, and must be discouraged. Be a well-wisher of everyone around. While you pray for your success, also pray for the success of others. Such good thoughts create and spread positive vibes. This can create a healthy work environment and you will be able to perform well as a team. Top management gurus also second this.
The 7 habits - You must try to inculcate the traits mentioned by Stephen Covey in his book ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People’. These comprise - be proactive, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win-win, seek first to understand then be understood, synergize and sharpen the saw. These habits will work as a catalyst for success.
