The government on Wednesday extended the deadline for linking of Aadhaar with PAN by three months.
"Central government extends the last date for linking of Aadhaar number with PAN from 31st March, 2021 to 30th June, 2021, in view of the difficulties arising out of the Covid-19 pandemic," the income tax department said in a tweet.
This is not the first time that the government has extended the deadline. In June last year, the I-T department had extended the last date for linking PAN-Aadhaar from July 31, 2020 to March 31, 2021.
The decision comes a relief for people who have not yet linked their PAN and Aadhaar. PAN card of such people would have become inoperative from April 1 had the date not been extended.
The extension brings comfort to the mutual fund industry as well. There was a bit of a confusion as to what would happen to the folio of investors who will fail to link the cards on time.
PAN is needed to get a KYC compliance. KYC is compulsory to invest in stock markets and mutual funds.
