Despite the pandemic, the total number of top distributors under individual category has gone up by 51%. As of March 2021, 1456 individual MFDs were managing assets of over Rs.75 crore as compared to 963 in March 2020, shows that latest report issued by IDFC Mutual Fund based on MFDex data, which represents 96% of the industry’s total AUM.
Similarly, the total number of individual MFDs managing assets in excess of Rs.100 crore increased by 54% to reach 987 MFDs in March 2021.
The report further revealed that top 1456 individual MFDs were managing assets of Rs.2.89 lakh crore as on March 2021, a growth of 58% compared to Rs.1.83 lakh crore in March 2020. In addition, these MFDs accounted for 43% of the total MFD AUM as on March 2021.
Interestingly, the report said that 90 individual MFDs manage assets in excess of Rs.500 crore. These MFDs were managing Rs.82,000 crore as on March 2021.
Overall growth in ARN count and their assets under advisory:
This is largely due to growth in equity assets. The number of MFDs with equity AUM over Rs.75 crore has increased from 420 in March 2020 to 794 in March 2021. These MFDs manage Rs.1.34 crore of assets in equity fund, which account for 29% of the total equity assets of MFDs.

The total number of individual MFDs selling debt products has grown from 183 to 205, an increase of 12%. These MFDs were managing assets of Rs.39,255 crore as on March 2021.
