Mumbai-based MFD Shailendra Ashar passed away last month after a brief illness. He was around 50 years of age.
Ashar is survived by his wife and two children.
MFDs who were close to him said Ashar was committed to his work. They said it was the result of this hard work that Ashar succeeded in crossing the Rs 100-crore AUM mark during his 18-year long stint in the industry.
"He was from a very humble background. Whatever he has achieved is a result of his hard work," said MFD Priyesh Sampat, who is a relative of Ashar.
Ashar started working as an MFD in 2003. In a recent interview with Mirae Asset MF, he said that he never did a job and his interest in finance brought him to mutual funds. He started his career by selling insurance products.
"He was very down to earth and was popular in the MF community. He was always ready to help. Whenever I used to go to Mumbai to attend events, he used to make arrangements for me. His demise is a big loss for me and also for many other MFDs who looked up to him for inspiration," said Ahmedabad-based MFD Milind Shah.
