Mutual funds have registered a massive surge in equity AUMs in the last financial year (FY 2022) with six fund houses doubling their equity fund assets, shows an analysis of AMFI data.

Among the top 10 fund houses, Axis MF logged the highest gain in equity AUM at 46%. The massive gain in assets resulted in Axis MF becoming the leader in equity space with an AUM of Rs. 1.4 lakh crore.

Equity AUM includes AUM of pure equity schemes and ELSS. We have taken the AUM of top 30 fund houses into consideration for analysis. We have not included AUM of passive schemes like ETFs and index funds.

ICICI Prudential, SBI and HDFC are the next biggest fund houses in the equity space. Also, they are the only other fund houses after Axis with equity AUM in excess of Rs.1 lakh crore. All the four mutual funds crossed the Rs. 1 lakh crore equity AUM mark for the first time in FY 2022.

Overall, the last financial year was remarkable for some smaller fund houses as six of them have doubled their equity AUM. These fund houses are Canara Robeco, PPFAS, PGIM India, Baroda BNP Paribas, Quant and Mahindra Manulife. The surge in assets of Baroda BNP Paribas is mostly due to its merger with BNP Paribas.
