August 2022 was good for the industry as almost all key indicators reached new milestones. While the industry added over 2.71 lakh new investors, the total unique investor count reached all time high at 3.58 crore last month.
Here are some key highlights of the month gone by:
Folio count
The MF industry added over 9 lakh new folios in August taking the total folio count to 13.65 crore. In July, the total folio count was 13.56 crore.
T30 and B30 assets
Of the total average AUM of Rs.39.53 lakh crore, T30 cities account for 82% of the total MF assets or Rs.32.29 lakh crore. In July, T30 assets was Rs.30.94 lakh crore.
Similarly, B30 cities also saw increase in assets from Rs.6.37 lakh crore to Rs.7.05 lakh crore.
Average AUM per folio
The average AUM per folio in T-30 cities was Rs.2.23 lakh as against Rs.97,000 in B-30 towns. Overall, the average AUM per folio of retail investor was Rs.1.68 lakh and that of industry was Rs.2.88 lakh.
SIP accounts
Investors opened over 21 lakh SIPs in August 2022. Of this, over 11 lakh SIP accounts matured or discontinued, taking the net addition to 10 lakh accounts.
The total live SIP accounts increased from 5.62 crore in July 2022 to 5.72 crore in August 2022. Interestingly, 85% of these SIP accounts are in equity funds. Debt other than liquid funds and hybrid funds account for 2% and 6%, respectively.
Overall, the industry received gross inflows of over Rs.12,700 crore through SIPs.
ARN/EUIN registration and renewal
In August, over 3,800 MFD joined the mutual fund industry. Of this, close to 1,750 were individuals, 80 corporate, 80 corporate employees and 5 individual MFD employee. The majority of new ARNs were from Maharashtra (29.56%), Gujarat (10.48%) and Uttar Pradesh (10.07%).
Also, 4,415 MFDs renewed their ARN in August. 2,450 individuals, 116 corporate and 1,489 corporate employees renewed their ARNs.
As on August 2022, there were total of 2.12 ARN holders which includes 1.08 individual MFDs and over 90,000 EUINs.
