India has a total wealth of $14,225 billion which is approximately Rs.11.36 lakh billion in 2021, shows the Global Wealth Report released by Credit Suisse.
Interestingly, India is ranked 5th in terms of the total wealth by region. North America, Europe, China and Asia-Pacific are ahead of India in terms of total wealth.
Overall, the total wealth has increased by 12% or $1524. Further, the report shows that per capita wealth of Indian adult was $15,535 or Rs.12.41 lakh in 2021.
In terms of dollar billionaire population, India is home to 796 such individuals in 2021 up from 689 in 2020. Accounting for 1% of the total dollar billionaire population across the world, India is ahead of Taiwan and New Zealand.
The report estimated that this population is set to increase by 105% to reach 1614 by 2026.
However, India continues to face the issue of rising income inequality. The report shows that 82% of the total dollar billionaire individuals in India held 82% of the country’s total wealth in 2021.
