AMFI data shows that average AUM per folio of retail investors in the MF industry is close to Rs.70,000. However, the average AUM per folio of retail investor has declined by 11% in the last one year i.e. from Rs.77,600 in September 2021 to Rs.69,200 crore in September 2021.
Further, the average AUM per folio of HNIs is Rs. 8.54 lakh in September 2022.

Overall, the average AUM per folio of the MF industry was Rs.2.78 lakh as on September 2022.
While the average AUM per equity folio was Rs.1.58 lakh, it was Rs.14.10 lakh for debt funds due to high ticket investments by institutions and HNIs. Solution oriented funds has the lowest average AUM per folio at Rs.55,144 as 98% of folios in this category is owned by retail investors.
Meanwhile, the data shows that retail investors invest for longer.
AMFI data shows that 44% of the total equity assets have been held for over 24 months. Further, retail investors hold 57% of their equity assets for more than 24 months.
