    MF bulletin: MF industry adds over 2.50 lakh new investors in October 2022

    The MF industry has a total of 3.63 crore investors as on October 2022.

    October 2022 was good for the industry as almost all key indicators reached new milestones. While the industry added over 2.54 lakh new investors, the total unique investor count reached all time high of 3.63 crore last month.

    Here are some key highlights of the month gone by.

    Folio count

    The MF industry added close to 10 lakh new folios in October taking the total folio count to 13.91 crore. In September, the total folio count was 13.81 crore.

    T30 and B30 assets

    Of the total average AUM of Rs.39.50 lakh crore, T30 cities account for 82% of the total MF assets or Rs.32.35 lakh crore. In September, the industry had T30 assets of Rs.31.48 lakh crore.

    Similarly, B30 cities also saw increase in assets from Rs.6.94 lakh crore to Rs.7.15 lakh crore.

    Average AUM per folio

    The average AUM per folio in T-30 cities was Rs.2.24 lakh as against Rs.97,000 in B-30 towns. Overall, the average AUM per folio of retail investor was Rs.1.68 lakh and that of industry was Rs.2.84 lakh.

    SIP accounts

    Investors opened close to 20 lakh SIPs in October 2022. Of this, over 10 lakh SIP accounts matured or discontinued, taking the net addition to 10 lakh accounts.

    The total live SIP accounts increased from 5.83 crore in September 2022 to 5.93 crore in October 2022. Interestingly, 85% of these SIP accounts are in equity funds. Debt other than liquid funds and hybrid funds account for 2% and 6%, respectively.

    Overall, the industry received gross inflows of over Rs.13,000 crore through SIPs.

    ARN/EUIN registration and renewal

    In October, over 3500 MFD joined the mutual fund industry. Of this, close to 1,740 were individuals, 95 corporate, 94 corporate employees and 2 individual MFD employee. The majority of new ARNs were from Maharashtra (28.61%), Gujarat (9.92%) and Uttar Pradesh (8.75%).

    Also, over 3200 MFDs renewed their ARN in October. 1676 individuals, 94 corporate and 1,466 corporate employees renewed their ARNs.

    As on October 2022, there were total of 2.17 ARN holders which includes 1.12 individual MFDs and over 91,000 EUINs.
