An analysis of AMFI data on geographical spread of mutual fund assets shows that Maharashtra, New Delhi and Gujarat are the top three states/UTs in terms of equity assets.
Maharashtra has the highest equity AUM with assets of Rs.6.04 lakh crore, which is 36% of the its total assets. New Delhi and Gujarat held second and third positions with equity assets of Rs.1.74 lakh crore (64% of its total AUM) and 1.58 lakh crore (47% of its total AUM), respectively.
These three states/UTs contribute close 50% to the total equity assets of Rs.19.14 lakh crore.
Further, AMFI data reveals that Karnataka and West Bengal followed the top three states with the equity AUM of Rs. 1.56 lakh crore (56%) and Rs. 1.33 lakh crore (64%), respectively.
In percentage terms, Andaman and Nicobar, Manipur, and Mizoram have highest proportion of their total assets in equity funds.
