    Maharashtra manages the largest chunk of equity assets

    The state houses over Rs. 6 lakh crore of equity mutual funds, the highest amongst all other states.

    A state-wise analysis of average AUM as on April 2023 shows that Maharashtra tops in terms of equity assets. Of the total average AUM of Rs. 17.33 lakh crore, the state has Rs. 6.24 lakh crore in equity assets. 

    Following Maharashtra, with an equity asset base of Rs. 1.79 lakh crore, Gujarat has the next highest proportion of these assets. 

    Besides, the top two, five more states manage equity assets of over Rs. 1 lakh crore. These are New Delhi (Rs. 1.62 lakh crore), Karnataka (Rs. 1.61 lakh crore), Uttar Pradesh (Rs. 1.37 lakh crore), West Bengal (Rs. 1.36 lakh crore) and Tamil Nadu (Rs. 1.02 lakh crore). 
    In percentage terms, six states/Union Territories have over 80% of their average AUM in equity assets - Jammu and Kashmir (84%), Manipur (84%), Tripura (83%),

    Andaman and Nicobar Islands (83%), Jharkhand (82%) and Bihar (82%).

    Overall, 31 states/UTs manage Rs. 39.76 lakh crore of MF assets, of which 50% or Rs. 19.95 lakh crore are in equity.
