    Maharashtra, New Delhi and Karnataka: Popular places for debt investors

    With Rs. 11.09 lakh crore of non-equity assets, Maharashtra takes a massive lead. New Delhi and Karnataka are next and manage Rs. 2.24 lakh crore and Rs. 1.22 lakh crore, respectively.

    State-wise average AUM data for April 2023 shows that Maharashtra houses Rs. 11.09 lakh crore of non-equity assets, the highest among other states/UTs. This forms 64% of the state’s total asset base of Rs. 17.33 lakh crore.

    New Delhi, Karnataka and Gujarat have the next largest non-equity asset base of Rs. 2.24 lakh crore, Rs. 1.22 lakh crore and Rs. 1.05 lakh crore, respectively.

    Interestingly, only the above four states/UTs have non-equity assets of over Rs. 1 lakh crore though Tamil Nadu is not that far behind as it manages Rs. 90,334 crore of such assets.

    Further analysis shows that apart from Maharashtra, three more states/UTs have 50% or more of their assets in non-equity funds. These include New Delhi (58%), Mizoram (55%) and Haryana (50%).

    Overall, 31 states/UTs have an asset base of Rs.39.76 lakh crore of which 50% are non-equity assets.
