AMFI data shows that retail investors hold equity funds for long term compared to debt funds.

The data reveals retail investors hold over 51% of the total equity assets for over 2 years compared to 30% of the total debt assets for over 2 years as on June 2023.

In June 2022 and June 2021, retail investors held 43% of their total equity assets for over 2 years. This shows that many investors are becoming mature when it comes to equity investment.

Experts attribute this to mark to market gains and handholding by distributors. Over 80% of retail equity AUM has been invested through distributors as on June 2023.

The data further shows that 20% of retail debt assets are redeemed within a month’s time. Such a figure was just 3% in equity funds.
