SEBI will introduce a new investment instrument for investors – small and medium real estate investment trusts (SM REITs). The market regulator announced this after its board meeting held recently in Mumbai.

These SM REITs will be allowed to issue their units with asset value of at least Rs.50 crore. For existing REITs, such a limit is Rs. 500 crore.  SEBI will soon issue regulatory framework in this context.

In another development, SEBI board has approved a regulatory framework for index providers. The market regulator believes that this will foster transparency and accountability in governance and administration of financial benchmark in securities market.

Further, SEBI has asked AIFs to dematerialise their fresh investment after September 2024.
