Individual investors now account for 59% of the total MF industry’s assets

The share of individual investors’ assets in the MF industry has been growing steadily.

Data released by AMFI shows that the proportion of individual investors which includes contribution from both retail investors and HNIs increased to 59% of the total MF assets as on September 2023 as against 57% in September 2022.

Further, the share of individual investors in mutual fund assets increased from Rs.23 lakh crore in September 2022 to over Rs.28 lakh crore in September 2023, an increase of 23.5%.

AMFI data also shows that the proportion of institutional investors is 41%. Their share increased from over Rs.17 lakh crore in September 2022 to close to Rs.20 lakh crore as on September 2023, an increase of 15%.

Overall, the industry’s assets increased from close to Rs.40 lakh crore in Sept 2022 to over Rs.48 lakh crore in September 2023.
