    SBI, UTI and Nippon are top three players in passives AUM

    While ICICI Prudential MF takes the top spot in the index space, SBI MF takes the lead not only in the ETF segment but also in the overall passives market.

    SBI, UTI and Nippon India are the top three fund houses in terms of passives AUM, shows an analysis done by Cafemutual on AUM data as of September 2023. 

    The analysis shows that ICICI Prudential MF takes the top spot in the index space whereas SBI MF leads not only in the ETF space but also in the overall passives market.

    Here are the top five players across each segment.

    With an AUM of Rs 23,911 crore, ICICI Prudential MF occupies the top spot. SBI MF and HDFC MF respectively manage assets of Rs 22,743 crore and Rs 20,688 crore to occupy the next two spots. Aditya Birla Sun Life MF and UTI MF manage the fourth-highest and fifth-highest asset base of Rs 20,528 crore and Rs 18,819 crore, respectively. 

    Overall, the top 30 fund houses manage assets of Rs 1.80 lakh crore. Of these 7 fund houses manage assets of over Rs 15,000 crore each and 8 fund houses have no presence in this segment. 

    ETF
    Combining gold and other ETF assets shows that SBI MF has the largest asset base of Rs 2.74 lakh crore. Notably, the fund house leads here by a huge margin. 

    Nippon India MF, UTI MF, Edelweiss MF and ICICI Prudential MF have the next largest asset base. Their AUM stands at Rs 85,031 crore, Rs 81,434 crore, Rs 58,926 crore and Rs 38,902 crore, respectively. 

    Of the top 30 fund houses, 16 fund houses are present in the ETF segment with an asset base of Rs 5.86 lakh crore and the remaining 14 fund houses are yet to mark their presence in the ETF space.  

    Total 
    SBI MF takes a lead by a huge margin in the overall passives market too. It manages Rs.2.97 lakh crore of passives assets. Following the top player is UTI MF which manages slightly more than Rs 1 lakh crore. These are the only two players to have assets of over Rs 1 lakh crore.

    Nippon India MF, Edelweiss MF and ICICI Prudential MF are the next top three players with individual assets of Rs 93,595 crore, Rs 74,942 crore and Rs 62,812 crore. 

    In total, 22 fund houses manage assets of Rs 7.65 lakh crore and the other 8 fund houses have no passive offerings.
