    Small-cap funds outperform all equity fund categories in 5-year period

    Mid cap funds and contra funds followed small cap funds with highest 5-year return.

    An analysis of 5-year category wise returns of equity funds done by Cafemutual shows that small-cap funds, midcap funds and contra funds are the top three fund categories with the highest 5-year returns.

    Small-cap funds topped the list with 5-year average return of 24.63%. The analysis shows that 76% of the funds in the small-cap category did well.

    Following small cap funds,  midcap funds and contra funds  secured the next two spot in terms of 5-year average returns of 20.75% and 20.39%, respectively.

    Multi cap funds and dividend yield funds are not far behind with 5-year category average returns of 20% and 19%, respectively.

    Large cap funds stood last with 5-year category average returns of 15.16%.
