    HDFC MF, ICICI Prudential MF and SBI MF command highest individual AUM

    While HDFC MF has the highest retail AUM, ICICI Pru MF commands highest market share in HNI AUM.

    Cafemutual analysis shows that HDFC MF, ICICI Prudential MF and SBI MF command the highest assets from individual investors. Individual investors include both retail investor and HNIs.

    HDFC MF has the highest individual AUM of Rs.4.41 lakh crore. It derives 71% of its assets from individual investors.

    ICICI Prudential MF and SBI MF are the next two fund houses with highest individual AUM of Rs. 4.39 lakh crore and Rs. 3.82 lakh crore. While the proportion of individual AUM to the total AUM of ICICI Prudential MF is 63%, such a proportion for SBI MF is 41% in March 2024.

    Nippon India MF and Kotak MF complete the top 5 with an individual investor AUM of Rs. 2.58 lakh crore and Rs. 2.27 lakh crore, respectively.

    Among other players in the top 10 list in terms of individual AUM are Axis MF, Aditya Birla MF, UTI MF, Mirae Asset MF and DSP MF.

    In percentage terms, fund houses which derive over 90% of their assets from individual assets are Franklin Templeton MF, PPFAS MF, Quant MF, Quantum MF and Taurus MF.

    Overall, individual investors contribute about 60% to the total MF AUM. The combined AUM of individual investors across fund houses in March 2024 is Rs. 32.83 lakh crore.

    Retail AUM

    When it comes to retail AUM, HDFC MF is the largest player with retail AUM of Rs. 1.77 lakh crore.  ICICI Prudential MF and Nippon India MF are the next biggest fund houses with retail AUM of Rs. 1.46 lakh crore and Rs. 1.33 lakh crore, respectively.  SBI MF and Axis MF complete the top 5 with retail AUM of Rs. 1.11 lakh crore and Rs. 1.05 lakh crore, respectively.

    Other fund houses with retail AUM of over Rs. 50,000 crore includes UTI MF, Aditya Birla MF, Mirae Asset MF, Kotak MF and DSP MF.

    In terms of percentage, Taurus MF has the highest retail AUM of over 86% of its total AUM. Franklin Templeton MF is a distant second with a retail AUM of over 53% of its total AUM. Quant MF is the third with a retail AUM of 50% of its total AUM. Other fund houses with high share of retail AUM in their total AUM include Canara Robeco MF, PPFAS MF, PGIM India MF, Groww MF, Mirae Asset MF, Sundaram MF, Navi MF and Quantum MF.

    HNI AUM

    In terms of HNI assets, ICICI Prudential MF has the highest HNI AUM of Rs. 2.93 lakh crore. SBI MF and HDFC MF are next with HNI AUM of Rs. 2.71 lakh crore and Rs. 2.64 lakh crore, respectively.

    Kotak MF and Nippon India MF also command high HNI AUM of Rs. 1.57 lakh crore and Rs. 1.24 lakh crore, respectively.

    Other fund houses with high HNI AUM includes Aditya Birla MF, Axis MF, Mirae Asset MF, DSP MF and Bandhan MF.
