    While HDFC MF commands the highest assets from retail investors, ICICI Prudential MF is the leader in HNI assets.

    An analysis of AUM data shows that HDFC MF, SBI and ICICI Prudential MF command the highest assets from individual investors in June 2024. Individual investors include both retail investors and HNIs.

    In mutual funds, individuals who invest more than Rs.2 lakh are considered HNIs.

    HDFC MF commands the highest assets of Rs.5 lakh crore from individual investors. The fund house derives 71% of its total assets from individual investors in June 2024.

    SBI MF and ICICI Prudential MF are the next two fund houses with individual AUM of Rs. 4.82 lakh crore and Rs. 4.81 lakh crore, respectively. In terms of the proportion of individual AUM to the total AUM, ICICI Prudential MF receives 47% of the total assets from individual investors compared to 62% of SBI MF.

    Nippon India MF and Kotak MF occupy the fourth and fifth positions with individual assets of Rs. 2.97 lakh crore and Rs. 2.57 lakh crore, respectively.

    Other players in the top 10 list in terms of individual AUM are Axis MF, Aditya Birla MF, UTI MF, Mirae Asset MF and DSP MF.

    In terms of proportion of individual assets to the total AUM, Franklin Templeton MF, PPFAS MF, Quant and Taurus MF derive over 90% of their total assets from individual investors.

    Overall, individual investors contribute about 62% to the total MF AUM. The total AUM of individual investors across fund houses is Rs.37.75 lakh crore in June 2024.

    Retail AUM

    In terms of retail AUM, HDFC MF is the largest player with retail AUM of Rs. 2 lakh crore.  SBI MF and ICICI Prudential MF are the next two fund houses with retail AUM of Rs. 1.81 lakh crore and Rs. 1.59 lakh crore, respectively. 

    Nippon India MF and Axis MF complete the top 5 with retail AUM of Rs. 1.54 lakh crore and Rs. 1.50 lakh crore, respectively.

    Other fund houses with retail AUM of over Rs. 50,000 crore include Aditya Birla MF, UTI MF, Mirae Asset MF, Kotak MF, DSP MF and Franklin Templeton MF.

    In terms of the proportion of total assets to the total AUM, Taurus MF, Groww MF and Franklin Templeton MF derive the highest proportion of its assets from retail investors.

    HNI AUM

    ICICI Prudential MF has the highest HNI AUM of Rs. 3.21 lakh crore. SBI MF and HDFC MF occupy the second and third positions with HNI AUM of Rs. 3 lakh crore and Rs. 2.99 lakh crore, respectively.

    Kotak MF and Nippon India MF also derive healthy assets of Rs. 1.75 lakh crore and Rs. 1.43 lakh crore from HNIs, respectively.

    Other fund houses with substantial HNI assets include Aditya Birla MF, Axis MF, Mirae Asset MF, DSP MF and UTI MF.

    Helios MF has the largest proportion of its total assets or 71% coming from HNIs. WhiteOak Capital MF and NJ MF are the next two fund houses with 62% and 59%, respectively of their total assets coming from HNIs.
