Approximately 4 million new investors have come into 20 AMCs since 2009

Mumbai: AMFI will soon publish the details of number of new investors coming into mutual fund industry on its website. According to sources, SEBI has asked AMFI to collate this data from the R&Ts.

According to data gathered from industry sources, 20 fund houses have attracted approximately 4 million investors since 2009.

SEBI has also asked fund houses to de-duplicate their folios to identify unique investors in its August 22 circular. The loss of folios, particularly equity fund folios, has been a matter of concern for the industry. The MF industry has added 1.94 lakh folios since September 2010 while equity funds have lost 5.29 lakh folios.

“Anything that increases awareness will help the industry but I am not sure if this particular data is of any relevance from industry expansion point of view,” says a sales head of a bank sponsored AMC.
