Mahie Gill who shot to fame with her critically-acclaimed debut in ‘Dev D’ and later ‘Saheb, Biwi aur Gangster’ — doesn’t invest in mutual funds or stocks though she is interested in learning more.

Do you enjoy doing offbeat films?

I am lucky to get the kind of films that are performance-oriented. I don’t have to just run around trees. Though, as an actor, I would like to do all kind of roles. But I am happy that people have taken me seriously and they find me very intelligent.

What drew you towards ‘Paan Sing Tomar’?

UTV – I did ‘Dev D’ with them and, of course, Timangshu Dhulia. I had seen his film ‘Haasil’ and I think he’s an amazing director; also, because of Irrfan Khan.

Which is the toughest character you have essayed so far?

I think there are two: The first one was in ‘Not a love story’ which I had done with Ram Gopal Varma. I think that was a very difficult character to play, and second was my role in ‘Saheb, Biwi aur Gangster’.

What did you do with your first pay check?

My friend borrowed it from me, so I didn’t do anything.

How did you manage your money back in your teenage days?

I used to get scholarship. I didn’t like borrowing money from anyone, not even from my parents. I am the kind of a person who can never borrow from anyone. I used to spend on my friends and we used to party.

    Your first investment…

I bought a flat for myself in Mumbai last year.

    One investment that you regret…

Nothing so far, I think I am wise while investing my money.

Are you a saver or spender?

I am both actually. I am satisfied with my life. One should not have too great an expectation from life.  I do save but when I feel like spending – I do that too.

Who advises you on money? Do you take the help of a financial advisor?

I take my own decisions most of the time. Sometimes, I consult friends who know more.

Do you invest in mutual funds or stocks?

No, I invest in property. It’s better. I have bought a house in Goa. I will invest in mutual funds if you convince me. I need to understand the whole thing first. That will be only in the next janam (laughs).

If not an actor, you would have been…

I would have been in the army.

    Your forthcoming films…

There is a sequel to ‘Saheb, Biwi aur Gangster’ and ‘Mayanagri’. There are two films which are ready for release and they are Michael, Buddha in a Traffic Jam.

Anything unique you would like to share about your upcoming film ‘Paan Singh Tomar’?

‘Paan Sing Tomar’ is a very interesting film. It’s a very different film for me, because the character is very different. It’s about a guy who is in the military who becomes an athlete and later on becomes a dacoit. So it’s about his life journey. It is a well-directed film and the director has brought out the best in everyone.

One character that you look forward to playing…

There’s one character I would like to play from the past which is of Waheeda Rehman from ‘Guide’.
