Recently released SEBI data shows that equity mutual funds have lost more than 10 lakh folios between April and June amid volatile market conditions. S&P BSE Sensex has fallen 1% during the same period,.
As on March 2013, the equity folio count was 3.31 crore which dropped to 3.20 crore in June 2013. Both ELSS and equity funds saw an erosion in folios.
The data shows that redemptions outpaced inflows which resulted in net outflow in equity funds. The industry mobilized Rs 9,686 crore through equity funds while redemptions stood at Rs 12,443 crore which resulted in net outflow of Rs 2,756 crore. Categories such as liquid, gilt and debt funds added 1.68 lakh folios.
As of today, there are 4.18 crore folios in the industry, 76% of which are equity folios.
