Tell your clients not to entertain any sales call coming from a 10-digit number.
Acting tough against fraudulent tele callers, IRDAI has directed insurance companies and insurance intermediaries like brokers, insurance market firms and corporate agents not to call customers from a regular 10-digit mobile number.
Instead, the regulator has asked them to use special numbers assigned by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), which generally start with ‘140/160’ series number.
While insurers and intermediaries can use 140 series numbers for making promotional calls to existing and new customers, 160 series numbers can be used for making transactional and service related calls to existing customers, clarified IRDAI.
The move aims to reduce instances of financial frauds by spam callers.
