Even in a tough year, two in every three midcap funds beat the benchmark

This augurs well for investors who have poured money into midcap and small-cap funds.

In a tough year for midcap stocks, when the S&P BSE Midcap Index lost 11 per cent, mid-cap funds fared pretty well, with 14 out of 21 mid-cap funds staying ahead and beating the benchmark indices. Analysts use outperformance over benchmark as an important tool to recommend a mutual fund scheme.
