    Why debt mutual fund investors will cheer a sub-3.5% fiscal deficit

    The Union Budget could prove profitable for debt mutual fund investors if the fiscal deficit guidance by the government is less than 3.5% of GDP.Typically , the benchmark bond yield drops when budget deficit shrinks and hence the value of debt mutual funds appreciate. Economists have pegged fiscal deficit at 3-3.5% for the next fiscal. The most optimistic scenario for is 3% and if this matches the government's guidance, the appreciation in debt funds will be the highest.
