The whole thing is that ki bhaiya sabse bada rupaiya

That’s the title of Amit Trivedi’s latest book. It uses Bollywood dialogues, stories and songs to make readers understand the fundamentals of money and investments.

Author and financial trainer Amit Trivedi has added one more feather in his cap with the launch of his new book, The Whole Thing is that Ki Bhaiya Sabse Bada Rupaiya.

The book’s premise is simple: Who does not like to watch a Bollywood film? We all know almost every Indian does. And so does Amit Trivedi. He makes clever use of filmy stories, scenes, dialogues, and of course, songs to retell them as tales in personal finance. The book contains 50 such stories that make a complex subject matter lucid and interesting. The simple language used helps immensely.

Here is an example from the book that uses the famous line Amitabh Bachchan delivers in the 1981 film Kaalia:Hum jahan khade hotey hain, line wahin se shuru hoti hai (The queue starts from where I stand).” The author uses this line to explain herd mentality in investing. “How many of us can claim to be even good at investing? None. So we tweak this above dialogue and say ‘Jahan line hoti hai, hum wahan khade ho jaate hain.’ So many investors queue up to buy (or sell) something only because others are doing it. We call it the herd mentality. This is seen across centuries, across countries and across investment options – we have seen it happening in equity shares, IPOs, real estate, gold, and recently Bitcoins,” says an excerpt from the book.

Sharing what inspired him to write the book, Trivedi says, “When I wrote an article on 7 ½ lessons from the screen life of Amitabh Bachchan as a tribute to him on his 75th birthday, it got an overwhelming response from readers. I realised then that if an article can generate such interest, an entire book on Bollywood can be a killer.”

In Amit Trivedi’s own words, “The book contains great education, but along with that it is very entertaining. Pick it up for a ‘fun-and-learn’ experience.”
