We all have read stories of Akbar-Birbal and Tenali Rama. These interesting tales teach beautiful life lessons in a fun way.

Author and trainer, Vinayak Sapre in his latest book ‘Birbal, Tenali and investment sutras’ uses stories of Birbal and Tenali to make readers understand the fundamentals of money and investments. In this book, the author compares human behaviour in the stories with investors and highlights some of the common mistakes.

One of the lessons in the book is on greed for high returns. Once Akbar, Birbal and all courtiers rode to a nearby forest and stopped under a tree to rest. Everyone fed peas to their horses when a monkey suddenly jumped off the tree and grabbed a handful of peas from the horse’s trough.

While climbing again on the tree, one pea slipped out of the monkey’s hand. In an effort to catch that one pea, he dropped all of the peas. Suddenly, Birbal started laughing looking at this act. That’s when Akbar asks Birbal ‘What is so funny?’.Birbal replies, “Your majesty, sometimes men also act like this, in their greed, for one thing, they lose everything else.”

Vinayak says that the moral from this story is that investors should exit risky investments like equity funds once they achieve their financial goals. At times, people end up losing their gains because they continue to hold their risky investments despite achieving their goals, he says.

In the book, the author has narrated 30 such stories to simplify financial concepts.

Vinayak believes that many investors do not understand investment jargons. However, with the help of these tales, learning financial concepts can be fun.

The author who has been in the industry for the past 19 years has previously written a book called Dohanomics, which explains investment lessons from verses of Sant Kabir and Rahim.

The expertise and passion of the author clearly comes across. The book is available at a price of Rs. 499 in English and is published by CNBC TV 18.

If you wish to help your clients learn financial concepts in an interesting way then this is the book to gift them.
