Twelve-year-old girl, Priyanka Mishra, who aspires to become a social worker so that she can help people in distress is herself suffering from ‘aplastic anemia’ since September. She is the daughter of Anil Kumar Mishra, an IFA hailing from Sambalpur, Odisha.
Aplastic anemia is a condition that occurs when your body stops producing enough new blood cells. It leaves you feeling fatigued with a higher risk of infection and uncontrolled bleeding. It is a rare and serious condition which can develop at any age.
Currently Priyanka is being treated in Bangalore’s Mazumdar Shaw Medical Centre. Doctors have recommended bone marrow transplant as a remedy for her illness, which will cost around 35 lakh rupees in total.
The Mishra family has so far spent 3 lakh rupees on the treatment from their savings. Priyanka has a medical insurance with a cover of up to 5 lakh rupees but the insurance does not cover bone marrow transplant, Mishra told Cafemutual.
In the next 15 days, the family needs around 35 lakh rupees for Priyanka’s bone marrow transplant.
IFAs from around the country are contributing for the operation 12-year-old through a crowd funding site, Milaap.
The website is offering a 15% matching contribution on all donations. Every payment that happens 15% will be added on that payment.
IFA Sudhanshu Sekhar Mohapatra, who is an acquaintance of Anil Kumar Mishra told Cafemutual that this appeal is being circulated across all WhatsApp groups among IFAs. He feels that IFA associations across India should come up with a solution for such events like a “trauma care fund.”
