Shillong, a beautiful hill station in the Northeast has been one of the favourite tourist spots of India. Mountains, waterfalls and lakes paint the perfect picture for a perfect holiday. Tourism provides a source of livelihood to a majority of the locals. However, the pandemic has affected the tourism industry and posed challenging times for locals. Understanding their plight, the mutual fund industry has come together to support those in need.
More than 50 MFDs and MF officials have come together to form a group ‘We Reach We Help’ (WRWH). The group distributes food packets that include pulses, rice, oil, dry fruits, etc. and has served more than 500 families until now.
In addition, the group also help affected people with doctors’ consultation and medicines. The group also donates data packs to these families to ensure that their children did not face difficulties in online studies. The group regularly visits affected families to see if they need anything.
In addition, the group helps people who are not technology savvy with the online registration of vaccination.
Recently, the group has started distributing masks, sanitisers and gloves to frontline workers like police, traffic police and so on.
One of WRWH’s members spoke to Cafemutual and said, “The entire industry is together in this cause.” Ajitabh Goswami, Anjan Kumar Das, Sudeep Kumar Mizar, Gajendra Kumar Roy, Mahua Das, and Rajdeep Das along with other MFDs and MF officials have been relentlessly serving the affected since the last year.
