Akta Sehgal of Manas Wealth, who founded Motherhood Club in 2018, is known for her persistent efforts for empowering women from all strata of society. Women from low-income groups often have limited access to hygiene products and feel less confident during their menstruation.
Young girls not having sanitary napkins prefer staying at home and miss their schools. “This leads to another grave problem of illiteracy”, added Akta. Taking up this matter, Akta along with her team at the Motherhood Club launched a new initiative in Sep 2021 for distributing sanitary napkins free of cost.
The team procures feminine hygiene products directly from manufacturers and distributes them amongst the less privileged groups. Notably, they also tested the products before distributing them.
In the short span of two months, Motherhood Club has reached out to hundreds of women to explain the importance of using sanitary products. It has distributed more than 5,000 packets in Noida, 2,000 in Dehradun, and 300 in Bhopal. Each packet comprises seven sanitary napkins.
Social representatives have been appointed for every location to look after location-specific needs. The initial expenses were met by the team out of their pockets. As the word began to spread, many were inspired to contribute to this noble cause. “We are truly grateful to each and every one for every rupee donated”, said Akta.
The Club provides an open platform for everyone who wishes to be a part of this initiative. Those inspired can contribute their bit to 9899299755 (Monica Goel Diwan, Chief Cheering Officer, the Motherhood Club) through Paytm. Every Rs. 10 donated promises at least one packet for the less privileged.
“This drive is an attempt to empower every woman to live a dignified and confident life”, concluded Akta.
