Three years ago, Ravi Jadhav of NR Investment, Rajkot Gujarat was suffering from obesity and diabetes. He weighed 130 kg and had a sugar level of 650 plus.
On July 10, 2022 Ravi completed his 500th half marathon. This 38-year-old MFD has also released a book on his journey titled ‘The Eklavya of Running’.
Let us hear his story in his own words:
The trigger
I was a food addict. I loved junk food and aerated drinks. Good habits compound and so do the bad ones. Over time, I gained a lot of weight to reach over 130 kg. I was a diabetic and had sugar level of 650 plus. Since I was consuming medicines, I thought I can continue to have junk food.
However, when I saw a sparrow lost his life leaving behind his new-borns, I started introspecting future. It was that moment when I thought what would happen to my family after me. We all are busy creating wealth but we should pay more attention to our health. Remember, health is wealth.
Start
To start with, I bought a treadmill on which I used to walk for 20 mins. Eventually, I started riding bicycle. During my cycling days, I used to observe a person who runs for several kilometres. What inspired me is the fact that he runs faster and longer than most cyclists.
I started following him by replicating his exercise, stretching and running style. Later, I approached him for coaching.
I started running 100 meters sprint and slowly graduated to marathon.
Achievement
I started running half marathon in February 2022. In 29 months, I completed 500th half marathon (21.1 km), which is record in itself. I am the third person in India to achieve this and first in Saurashtra-Kutch region. Also, I ran 6 full marathons (42.2 km) and 6 ultra marathons (75 kms in Kutch’s white desert).
Distribution journey
I started MF distribution business in 2008. I was a sales executive of water purifier before venturing on my own. I always wanted to do business and I sensed an opportunity in MF distribution business.
My initial clients were those who bought water purifier from me. Gradually, I grew my business through referrals.
Today, I have over 300 clients and manage assets of Rs.43 crore in mutual funds. Majority of my AUM is in equity funds.
Motivation
Just like investors need a goal to achieve their financial goals, I too have a target of running 1000 half marathons by February 2025. Thanks to this motivation, I wake up at 3.30 am, exercise and run between 4.30 am and 7.30 am, start office at 9 am and sleep at 9.30 pm every day.
Team Cafemutual salutes the spirit of Ravi and wishes him success in his future endeavours.
