Zankhana Shah, Money Care Financial Planning
Getting into financial advisory was not a planned move. I have been brought up in the finance environment since my father Jitendra Bhabhera has been a stock broker. Also, one of my dearest friends cum colleague Devang Shah, who is well known and successful in the advisory space inspired me to pursue CFP certification and start my practise. In fact, I’m among the first few practicing CFPs in India and the first lady planner.
I was motivated by the fact that this profession can impact people’s lives in a very significant way. By giving good financial advice at the right time you can change a person’s life!
Some of the key things that helped me excel are:
- Commitment to the client and putting their interest first
- Understanding client needs and goals
- Learning continuously
Advice to budding women IFAs:
- Learn to be patient if you want to excel in this practice
- Be a voracious reader. Reading helps improve your analytical skills
- Keep in touch with clients and conduct review meetings frequently
Khyateey Dutt, Plan Rich Consultany
I was working for a corporate and my job revolved around managing people’s money. Gradually, I realized that clients were being mis-sold and they were incurring huge losses. This was against my ethics. So I decided to start my own venture rather than compromise through sub-optimal choices with client’s finances.
Now that I am on my own, I have a different perspective on how to deal with clients and I understand their needs in a better way.
Some of the things that helped me excel are:
- Unbiased advice- focus on client’s interest and recognize their needs and aspirations
- Transparency- We maintain transparency and share every detail with our clients regarding their portfolio and also what are we earning from it.
- Providing excellent service and dealing with their problems
Advice to budding women IFAs: It is a wonderful profession and more women should join this industry. Clients trust women more than men as they are more empathetic and more patient. You just have to know your subject well and have an urge to learn more to excel in this profession.
