In recent times, one movie that has managed to capture the interest of both the national and international audiences is Baahubali 2. The movie that has broken many records and won critical acclaim, also gives some valuable lessons to advisors.
#1 Stay ahead despite apparent market volatility
One of the touching scenes in the movie is of the matriarch Sivagami Devi continuing in her path towards the Shiva temple, despite people warning her that there is a mad elephant on her path. While her companions constantly try to dissuade her, Sivagami’s pace never slows. She finally manages to complete her journey unhurt and successful.
This scene teaches us that sometimes markets might seem volatile and many clients might feel that this is not the right time to invest. In fact, the clients may even be warned by their well-wishers not to continue. However, advisors must help clients realise if they keep investing despite these so called warnings, they stand a chance of making better returns.
#2 Understand your clients
Under the instructions of Sivagami, Baahubali leaves his palace to visit various parts of his kingdom to understand the needs and problems of his people. Similarly, an advisor too needs to survey the needs and aspirations of his clients to serve them better.
#3 Client-centric practice gives best results
While Baahubali and Bhallaladev are both equally capable, Baahubali’s empathy towards his people makes him a favourite. On the same lines, advisors who have a client centric practice and go out of their way to serve their clients have better chance of attracting a larger and loyal client base.
#4 Never jump to rash conclusions
There are two instances in the movie when the entire institution is threatened because one person jumped to a rash conclusion. The first when Kumara Verma, an aide of Baahubali, assumes that Bhallaladev is trying to assassinate Baahubali. He forms an alliance with the seemingly well intentioned father of Bhallaladev and tries to assassinate him. Only to discover that this was a plot to frame Baahubali.
Similarly, Sivagami too concludes that it was Baahubali who sent Kumara Verma to assassinate the king. She orders the execution of Baahubali. It is only after his death does she realise his innocence and the connivance of her own son.
There might be many instances in an advisor’s life when things might not be exactly what they seem. Therefore, it is prudent for the advisor not to make any rash assumptions and only come to a conclusion after they have checked all the facts.
#5 Succession Planning is crucial
On realising that she had wronged Baahubali, Sivagami announces Baahubali’s son as the heir of the Mahishmathi kingdom. This helps Shiva aka Mahendra Baahubali to later stake a claim to Mahishmathi.
Advisors too need to make a clear succession plan for their business so that there is clarity among the employees and clients on who will take over in case something happens to the advisor.
