Mukesh Ambani has more wealth than the AUM of India’s AIF industry. The latest list of the Indian wealthy released by IIFL Wealth and Hurun titled ‘The ‘IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2019’ report says that Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries has a net worth of Rs.3.81 lakh crore, which is more than the AUM of the entire AIF industry at Rs.2.81 lakh crore.
Ambani remained at the top of the list for the eighth consecutive year.
London-based SP Hinduja & family retains the second rank in the list with wealth of Rs.1.87 lakh crore. Similarly, Azim Premji, the founder of Wipro rises to the third spot with a wealth of Rs.1.17 lakh crore.
While LN Mittal, Chairman & CEO of ArcelorMittal is the 4th richest with a wealth of Rs.1.07 lakh crore, Gautam Adani stormed into the top 5 with a total wealth of Rs.94,500 crore.
Apart from these heavyweights, 11 new individuals feature in India’s Richest Top 100.
Some of the notable new entrants in the Top 100 of IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2019 are:
- Serial entrepreneur Jay Chaudhry, founder chairman and CEO of Zscaler, cloud-based information security company
- Janata Dal-United legislator Mahendra Prasad who owns two pharmaceutical companies named Aristo Pharmaceuticals and Mapra Laboratories and
- Thomas Kurian, who completed 22-year stint at Oracle where he served as the Product Development head before resigning in November 2018 to join Google as Google Cloud CEO
Software & Services and pharmaceuticals with 13 individuals each and FMCG sector with 8 individuals account for 34% of list in terms of industry.
These top 100 individuals in the list account for 60% wealth of IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2019. The combined wealth of all the 953 individuals featuring in the ‘IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2019’ report accounts for 27% of India’s GDP.
