81 cricket-loving IFAs had a blast at the mutual fund industry’s most exciting cricket tournament for IFAs called Cafemutual IFA League (CIL) Season 2. These players along with their supporters cheered, danced, networked and encouraged each other at the second edition of CIL where nine teams fought each other in ‘6-overs a side’ matches. Of the nine teams, two were from Pune, one from Nashik and the rest of the teams were from Mumbai.
The nine teams – Alpha Generators, Asset Allocators, Beta Blasters, The Contrarians, Growth Orienteers, SIPers, The Outperformers, The Diversifiers and Value Chasers competed to clinch CIL Season 2 Championship on December 17.
The tournament kicked off with a winning performance by The Contrarians against Growth Orienteers. While Beta Blaster defeated SIPers by 6 wickets, Alpha Generators defeated Asset Allocators by 41 runs. Similarly, The Contrarians and Value Chasers crushed The Outperformers and The Diversifiers in their respective matches to reach semi-finals.
The first semi-final was truly a nail biting match. Beta Blasters played against The Contrarians. After winning the toss, The Contrarians who won two consecutive games decided to bat. Things got off to a wonderful start for the Contrarians with openers Umesh Pujari and Prasad Kavale set up a blistering attack and helping their team set a massive target of 83 runs. While chasing, Beta Blasters too got off to a good start. Both Ranjit Dhole and Ankit Jhala batted well and it seemed they were cruising to a victory. However, the bowling spell of Prasad Kavale and spectacular fielding of Umesh Pujari changed the entire game for Beta Blasters. The run rate which was soaring high, plunged after Ankit’s wicket. However, Ranjit Dhole stayed at the crease till the last over to snatch victory.
In the second semi-final match, Alpha Generators defeated Value Chasers by 29 runs. Alpha Generators batted first and piled up a massive score of 81 runs. Hemendra Gandhi and Basant played well for the team.
In the final match, Alpha Generators defeated Beta Blasters by a massive 49 runs. Alpha Generators batsman were dominant throughout the tournament which helped the team clinch the CIL Season 2 trophy.
CIL is a day-long hard tennis ball cricket tournament held on December 17 at Astro Park - Lions Club, Near Milan Subway, Santa Cruz West Mumbai.
